"Εγώ προτιμώ την πόλη μου που ζω όπως είναι. Γιατί στην πόλη δημιουργείται ο πολιτισμός. Μέσα σ' αυτή την πόλη, όσο ελεεινή και να είναι, δημιουργούμε. Εγώ, άμα δεν είχα περιπλανηθεί στους δρόμους της πόλης, δεν θα είχα αναπτυχθεί πνευματικά. Περιπλανιόμουν στην Πανεπιστημίου, κοιτούσα φωτογραφίες των κινηματογράφων, πήγαινα στο Σινεάκ, στο Pοζικλέρ και στην Αλάσκα, στο Πεδίον του Άρεως, στο Γκρην Πάρκ, στο Αρχαιολογικό Μουσείο, στα θέατρα Περοκέ και Σαμαρτζή, στη Βικτώρια και στο Αλκαζάρ, τα δύο σινεμά στο σταθμό Λαρίσης, στο Άστρα, με τα νέα ταλέντα που γαλουχήθηκαν εκεί. Και μετά πήγαινα στο Ωδείο Αθηνών-Πειραιώς και στη Σχολή Καλών Τεχνών, οδός Πατησίων, στην πιο ωραία σχολή. (Τώρα εκεί στο Γκάζι που την πήγαν, τι εικόνες θα αποκομίσουν οι σπουδαστές;) Και μετά στο Σύνταγμα, στην πλατεία Κλαυθμώνος, στο θέατρο Κουν. Καθόμασταν και στα παγκάκια πολλές φορές στο Βασιλικό Κήπο, όπου πηγαίνω ακόμα. Όταν μπαίνω εκεί, έχω πάντα αυτή τη μυρωδιά της δροσιάς των δέντρων. Μου άρεσαν και οι ανδριάντες, οι προτομές που πρόβαλλαν στο πράσινο φόντο των φυτών. Και μάλιστα ζωγράφισα πολλά έργα με αυτό το θέμα". (Από την παρουσίαση στο οπισθόφυλλο του βιβλίου)
