  • Ferrari’s ultimate expression of an extreme front-engine berlinetta, the new 812 Competizione hones the essential characteristics of their critically acclaimed 812 Superfast to new levels. Originally dubbed by Ferrari as the 812 ‘VS’, the car was designed to epitomise Ferrari’s substantial 70 plus years of experience on the world’s circuits, encapsulating the core of every one of their sports cars to deliver blend of performance, form and functionality. From design to build, Ferrari has created this work of art as a homage to their own history and out of dedication to their most passionate collectors and connoisseurs. Featuring numerous uncompromising engineering solutions to guarantee peerless driving pleasure, there will only ever be 999 cars made.

Underpinning the Competizione, Ferrari’s final naturally aspirating V12 road car, is a new independent four-wheel steering system which allows the rear wheels to act independently of each other, rather than in sync. As a track-focused Ferrari design, weight reduction has been a significant aspect to increasing the car’s performance. The Competizione weighs 38kg less than a Superfast, with the powertrain, the body’s carbon fibre front and rear bumpers, rear spoilers, air intakes and running gear all contributing to the weight loss. A 12V lithium-ion battery accompanies the titanium con rods and other engine modifications to reduce weight, allowing the car to achieve 0-62mph (0-100km/h) in 2.85s, 0-124mph (0-200km/h) in 7.7s and reach a top speed of 211mph (340km/h).

As a more powerful version of the marque’s 6.5-litre V12, the 812 Competizione design has in-depth cutting-edge aerodynamic research integrated through, which has produced extreme solutions to the car’s profile that is unprecedented for a road-legal car. One of the most notable of these attributes from the outside is its completely closed rear screen, replacing the rear-view mirror with a camera, a first in Ferrari’s production car history. Instead of a glass screen, it has been equipped with three pairs of profiled elements which act as vortex generators allowing for the redistribution of the rear axle’s pressure field towards the sides of the spoiler to boast downward force generation. This panel also allows for customers to customise their own car further.

Alluding to the iconic Ferrari 330 P4, the car’s imposing rear spoiler has been lifted higher, with the tailor-made design used also widening the appearance of the tail look giving the rear greater stance. The extremities of this aerodynamic appendage intersect with the line of the rear wings, highlighting their muscular appearance and referencing iconic their 330 P3/P4 cars. The bodywork rear of the crests is now fluted, accentuating the three-dimensionality and distinctiveness of the car’s flanks. The taillight clusters provide the car with a more aggressive and evocative look.

When exploring the interior architecture, the 812 Competizione has remained faithful to the 812 Superfast, retaining the same overall parameters, main dashboard and door panel interfaces and the latter’s signature diapason motif within the seat design. The door panel itself has been lightened overall both formally and in terms of actual weight to underscore the sportiness of the cockpit. In the centre of the cockpit, a link between Ferrari’s past and future can be found through the iconic gear-gate theme being brought back with a modern twist. This is the first time it has appeared on a V12 car and is very much mirrors the spirit of the 812 Competizione and the marque’s tradition.

This fine 1:8 scale model of the Ferrari 812 Competizione has been handcrafted and finished in our workshops with the co-operation and assistance of Ferrari regarding original CAD data, finishes, and paint codes. Furthermore, it has undergone detailed scrutiny by both engineering and design teams to ensure complete accuracy of representation.

The Ferrari 812 Competizione is limited to just 199 pieces.

If we care about racism and white privilege, what should we do?
    Format: Kindle
One hundred and fifty-two years ago, slavery ended in the United States. And yet the tentacles of that time touch lives every day, all these years later. What can be done to make things better? Michael Eric Dyson, a sociology professor at Georgetown University, and an ordained Baptist minister, suggests that white people who care about the lives of black people should make individual reparations. In his book, Tears We Cannot Stop …A Sermon to White America, Dyson says, “{Black people} built a legacy of excellence and struggle and pride amidst one of the most vicious assaults on humanity in recorded history. That assault may have started with slavery, but it didn’t end there. The legacy of that assault, its lingering and lethal effect, continues to this day. It flares in broken homes and blighted communities, in low wages and social chaos, in self-destruction and self-hate too. But so much of what ails us—black people. That is—is tied up with what ails you—white folk, that is. We are tied together in what Martin Luther King Jr. called a single garment of destiny. Yet sewed into that garment are pockets of misery and suffering that seem to be filled with a disproportionate number of black people.” The book, unlike Dyson’s other scholarly works, takes the form of a worship service, and uses the concept of an extended sermon, or jeremiad, to lead the reader through confession, repentence, and redemption “through the long night of despair to the bright day of hope.” In Dysons’s view, “whiteness is a problem to be struggled with,” and his book is of inestimable value in grappling with the struggle. The book speaks at length of police brutality against black people, and fervently tries to create empathy in white readers. It includes an extraordinary bibliography of books which give insight and voice to black history, oppression, pain, achievement, and lives. And it speaks of reparations, and our responsibility as white beneficiaries of an unequal system, to take concrete actions to right the wrong, the change our country and the lives of our black sisters and brothers and their children. Dyson is imaginative, and has many suggestions for how an individual or group “I.R.A.”—an Individual Reparations Account. We could buy books for black college students, overpay our black accountant or hairdresser, pay the black person who cuts our grass double the amount on the bill, give to the United Negro College Fund, and more. He suggests that faith groups consider giving 10% of their revenues to a church I.R.A. In an interview in the New York Times Magazine, Dyson says, “If the sermon ain’t making you a little bit uncomfortable, it ain’t effective. Look, if it doesn’t cost you anything, you’re not really engaging in change: you’re engaging in convenience. I’m asking you to do stuff you wouldn’t ordinarily do. I’m asking you to think more seriously and strategically about why you possess and what you possess…..you ain’t got to ask the government, you don’t have to ask your local politician—this is what you, an individual, conscientious, ‘woke’ citizen can do. I have read many—though surely not all—of the books Dyson recommends. I have grappled with white privilege as a mother of black children, a fighter against apartheid, a civil rights activist, a human being. I have never read anything which more cogently offers “woke whites” a path to being a part of the change. I urge you to read Tears We Cannot Stop …A Sermon to White America, and to take your place in the pantheon of people who help this country grow beyond its racist past.
